Get ready to celebrate Independence Day with creative DIY Fourth of July Decorations! This tutorial will guide you through transforming our popular rack-mount enclosure (37-U Series) into a stunning American flag-themed masterpiece. Not only will this project add a personal touch to your celebrations, but it will also showcase your creativity and electronic expertise. So, let’s get started and make this Fourth of July one to remember!

What is a rack-mount enclosure?

A rack-mount enclosure is a versatile housing for electronic projects, designed to fit into a rack cabinet enclosure. It’s perfect for organizing testing equipment, telecommunications gear, and even cryptocurrency mining rigs! I also know some customer build their music spectrum analyzer using the rackmount enclosure.

Transforming a Rack-Mount Enclosure into a Patriotic Masterpiece

Prepare by sketching out the design before painting.

I use the width of the ruler to divide the space equally.

Sand and paint the primer on the rack mount enclosure’s surface.

Divide the box again using the same method.

Make the spacing for all the stars.

If you use the ruler to divide the spacing, now you can also use it to make sure that the tape has the correct width.

Cover all the areas that are not supposed to be painted red because we are going to paint the red stripes.

Take your time and go over it a couple of times.

Peel the tape to see the result. Repeat the previous step if you want to touch up the white stripes.

Apply the stars on the correct marking. I applied 2 layers just to make sure the paint doesn’t leak through.

Cover the area that you don’t want to paint over.

Wait until the paint dries completely. This is a very important factor because you don’t want to damage the blue area. There will be a video below showing how to complete this step correctly.

My Favorite Part of the whole build is to remove the star stickers to reveal the final design.

The finished rack-mount enclosure (37-3U) looks amazing!
